A catastophe for Yemen

 Urgent action needed

The Saudi-led coalition has started a major assault on the city of Hodeidah in Yemen. At least 149 people, including civilians, have been killed over a 24-hour period.

Hodeidah is a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid into the war-torn country. The International Committee of the Red Cross has stated “Yemen’s survival depends on this city”. The UN is warning that Yemen is on the brink of the world’s worst famine in a 100 years: up to 14 million people are already at risk of starvation.

Even before the Saudi-led attack on the key port of Hodeidah, Save the Children estimated that more than 36,000 Yemeni children are likely to die from starvation in 2018.

Ending arms sales and cutting ties with Saudi Arabia is now essential and urgent. It could help to avert catastrophe.
